How to coordinate the matches and training sessions with your tennis group.
Working in a large company allowed me to reconnect with my passion, which I had kept in my closet since my graduation days.
Of course, I´m talking about tennis and that is why I´m dropping these lines here! The matter of the fact is that several coworkers of mine play tennis often and, as soon as I got to know this, I joined the team. I even took one step further, and I came up with the idea of taking it seriously and participating in the USTA leagues.
You cannot imagine how hard it may be to organize a tennis match among 15 people (yes, we are a BIG team), to schedule training sessions, training matches, and other activities typical of a team that intends to compete; unless you have a great assistant. My assistant is on the Internet and it is called TheTiebreakers.com.
TheTiebreakers is a web site for tennis players and, among other things, it offers a special feature for “groups”. Basically, you have to enter all the team players, each of them enters the available times to play, and then the system “organizes” matches with the matching times. This feature that may sound so simple saves us hours of phone calls, and saves me from having to chase everybody around. By using TheTiebreakers we are all connected and posted of the activities we have going forward.
TheTiebreakers is so practical that each player gets to know who is available to play with just a glance. Let’s assume you are free on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. (your appointment with the dentist was cancelled), so you send an invitation to play on that day at that time, and those people that are available will receive it by email, or it will pop up just when they log in the page.
And what if they are all busy that Thursday? Well, there are thousands of registered users, and although they may not be from your team, you can also schedule matches with them. More likely than not you will find someone willing to accept your invitation and who has more or less your skillo level, because TheTiebreakers also cares to detail. We have found it very useful to play with “unknown players” from time to time, and I can assure you that thanks to this system we have, at least, doubled the frequency at which we get organized to train and play.
