Some Tennis 101 for Beginners

If you are just introducing yourself to the world of tennis, then this guide is going to walk you through the basics of play, and will put you on the road to truly understanding how to get the most out of the game of tennis.

The Court

The court that the game of tennis utilizes is 78 feet in length by 27 feet in width and there are a variety of different court surfaces that can be used, including but not limited to hard court surfaces, clay surfaces, carpeted surfaces and grass surfaces. The court is divided widthwise by a net, and the players are required to hit a ball over the net. There are baselines on each of the ends of the court, and serves are taken from the baselines and the ball must cross the net before it bounces. If the ball bounces out, it is considered to be out of bounds and as a result the hitter will lose a point.
